Movie Suggestions

It's Movie Suggestion Time!

In today's post, I'll be sharing two Christian movies that you can check out. So when you're ready, grab some popcorn, open your Netflix account and get ready for an entertaining time.

1. THE SHACK

The Shack tells of Mack Phillips, a man who suffers a tragedy that takes a toll on his life and faith in God. After receiving an anonymous letter inviting him to a shack in the wilderness, he encounters three strangers who help him through his crisis and to restore his dwindling faith.

Based on a novel by William P. Young, this movie is one that will help you gain insight into some of the many questions we ask ourselves/ get asked when it comes to suffering and God's Will. The main character, Mack, goes through a serious tragedy and falls into a state of depression and doubting God's goodness. And it's a very relatable situation as we ourselves go through various problems that make us question God or doubt Him.

The movie gives an understanding of many things we wonder about and gives a deeper view of God's love. It's definitely one that I would watch over and over again.

2. A WEEK AWAY

If you're looking for a lighthearted Christian musical, then A Week Away is your movie. I would say it's kind of like the Christian version of Camp Rock, which is funny because both leads in this movie acted in Disney Channel shows. The movie even goes along with the 'main-character-lying-about-who-they-are' trope that was used in Camp Rock.

So basically, this movie is about a rebellious teen who lands in trouble and is given the choice to attend a Christian camp with his new foster placement, or Juvenile Detention. Taking the seemingly less daunting choice, he finds himself at the camp where the daughter of the camp owner catches his eye. In order to impress her, he pretends to be someone that he isn't. But as he continues to immerse himself in the role of a church-going, Bible-reading, God-loving guy, he begins to experience a sense of belonging that he never knew before.

I honestly love the music in this movie as there are some classics I used to listen to as a child that have been remixed, as well as some modern favourites. The Awesome God/God Only Knows mashup has got to be my favourite, along with a few other original songs in the movie.

This movie is really fun to watch and gives an important lesson on acceptance, love and faith in God.
