Storge and Philia Love Quotes

It's a new week and it's also the last week of February.

Our Month of Love is gradually coming to an end and it's been great learning so much about the different kinds of love. To kick start the week, I've gathered a few quotes on Storge and Philia Love.

Storge love as we discussed in the first post of this month, has to do with the affectionate and love between parents and children. Philia love on the other hand, is a brotherly love you have for friends or siblings. Family and friendships are one of the most important things you can have.

Your relations with your family can have an impact on other relations you'll have outside the home. For example, based on the love with which your dad treats you, you may want to find a partner who has the same qualities he possesses because to you, that's how you should be loved and cared for. If you don't get along with your siblings or don't have any, you may yearn for that brotherly/sisterly bond in a friend.

We can't choose our families but we can make the most out of our relationships with them. Yes, some families aren't as great and ideal as others, and there are people who genuinely do not have the best relations with their family. But I believe God brings people our way in particular seasons for a reason. God may be using your family to teach you how to love and be patient, despite the hardships. And at the end of the day, even when you don't feel that fatherly/motherly love, God has the amount of love you need to fill that void.

In our friendships, we do get to choose. We may not make the best choices sometimes and there will be 'fake' friends or people who hurt us along the way. But we need to remember that to have good friends, we must be good friends. Yes, we may be taken advantage of sometimes because of the amount of love and care we give out, but other people's failure to cherish you shouldn't cause you to change who you are.

God also warns us to stay away from bad company because they corrupt good character (1 Corinthians 15:33). Don't let someone's popularity, wealth or looks cause you to lose your self values.
