"Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?"
Luke 2:49
Chapter 2 starts off with the birth of Jesus and the different events that followed his birth. The visitation of the shepherds, his presentation at the temple and the revelations of His future by both Simeon and the prophetess, Anna.
The latter part of Chapter 2 talks about the young Jesus at the temple during the Festival of the Passover. His parents couldn't find him on their return home from Jerusalem so they had to go back and ended up searching for him for three days. In the end, they found him in the temple in the midst of the teachers.
Luke 2:49 was the response Jesus gave His parents when they questioned him on his whereabouts. You would think a 12 year old would rather spend their time hanging out with friends or running around trying to have some fun. Yet Jesus was in the temple, learning about God.
It brings this question to mind:
When people are looking for you, will they find you doing the things of God?
Do your actions and activities reflect God? Do they glorify Him? Do they set you apart from the world?
Well they should.
Jesus wasn't found doing what was typical of a twelve year old boy, which was why it took his parents longer to find him. Rather, he was doing something unexpected of a child; listening attentively to the teachings of God and fulfilling a desire to know more about Him.
Don't be the same as everyone else. Just because everyone is out partying, doesn't mean you should be too. Don't get me wrong; there's nothing wrong with having fun from time to time (good fun, please). But don't be a typical person. Use every second you have to learn more about God and work to build His Kingdom.
When you are found, let others say that you were found doing the things of God.
Stay blessed and stay a blessing.
