“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”
Luke 11:24-26
Addictions and temptations are something that we all struggle with, and they can take various forms; pornography, masturbation, drugs, drinking, etc. The Bible says that we are tempted by our own sinful desires. The devil may bring temptation your way but it is ultimately you that makes the choice whether to flee or succumb to the temptation.
The good thing is that, when we come to Christ, He gives us the strength and power to say NO and to flee from these chains of addiction. Temptations will come your way but you have the power to overcome them. Christ cleans our hearts and souls, ridding it from impure spirits.
But just as in the text, when we have no-one to occupy our newly cleaned hearts, we are susceptible to these same impure spirits that were cast out of us. Yes, Jesus has the power to help remove these impure spirits but you have to make the choice to decide what you're going to fill your heart with.
If you fill your heart with Jesus, there will be no room for the enemy to bring these shadows from your past back. But if after being saved you don't develop that closer relationship with God and store up your heart with the things of God, there's a higher chance of falling back into temptation and sin.
So fill your heart, your soul and mind with Jesus. Don't do, watch or listen to things that will tempt you to fall back into your old ways. Make room for Jesus and let there be an overflow in your heart of only Him.
Stay blessed and stay a blessing.
