“Martha, Martha,”the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:41
In serving God, it's easy to lose sight of what's really important. Martha was clearly hard working; bustling around the house, trying to make Jesus as welcome as possible. And with all the things that had to be done, it's understandable that she was complaining about her sister Mary's lack of assistance.
But instead of scolding Mary, Jesus let Martha know that Mary was in the right here. She sat at Jesus' feet, listening attentively to His teachings, knowing that she could learn so much from Jesus. This was her time; her moment. She had Jesus in front of her and she wasn't going to let anything take her away from fully benefiting and drawing wisdom from Him.
Many of us are like Martha. We're so into doing the work of God that we forget about actually spending time with Him. Sometimes you need to just pause and reflect on your relationship with God. Yes, God is happy with your service. But what He wants more is to have a closer relationship with you.
In your service to God, don't neglect your relationship with Him.
Stay blessed and stay a blessing.
