So there's this kind of 'challenge' going around that my family and some of my friends have decided to do. It's basically reading the whole book of Luke, starting from 1st December. Since there are 24 chapters in Luke, you'll finish by 24th December, which is Christmas Eve.
This challenge is simply a way for us to understand the mission and life of Jesus, so that by the time Christmas is here, we can fully comprehend who Jesus Christ is and the true reason why we celebrate Christmas.
So I decided that since I'm starting this challenge, I'll share a meaningful verse/verses that I really learnt something from. Since today is 2nd December, I'll share both Chapter 1 verse and Chapter 2 verse today.
But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.
Luke 1:13
So usually when Luke 1 is mentioned, the story of the angel Gabriel visiting Mary is usually the main story. But whilst reading this chapter, my attention was drawn to the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth. They were not able to give birth to a child and it seemed impossible now in their old age.
Whilst reading the verse 13, I noticed that the angel said to Zechariah, "Your prayer has been heard."
Did that mean that even though it seemed impossible now that they were in their old age, Zechariah continued to pray that God would give them a child? Even if it seemed quite odd or against human logic?
But the funny thing is that, when his prayer was answered, Zechariah had doubts. I think we all get like that at times. We ask God for something, even when others say that it can't be done or that it's useless to hope that our desires will actually be fulfilled. But when God actually answers us, we end up doubting. Strange huh?
We have to have faith before, during and after our miracle has been bestowed upon us. Because our God is the God of the impossible. Despite your doubts and human logic, He can fulfil your requests in ways that you'll never imagine.
And note that even though Zechariah and Elizabeth's miracle came in their old age after a long wait, it wasn't just an ordinary baby. No. John would grow to be a Spirit-filled prophet who would prepare the way for the Messiah. He was blessed with this great destiny before he was even conceived.
No matter how long your miracle is taking, continue to have faith in God that He will make it happen. And know that He'll do something you would never expect.
Stay blessed and stay a blessing
