Relationship Goals

Hi guys.

For today's post, I wanted to share something with you that ties together with Eros love. In fact, it basically talks about all the different types of love but it's very beneficial when it comes to relationships with a significant other.

So I may have mentioned in a previous post that I had watched a series on YouTube called Relationship Goals by Mike Todd. Michael Todd is the Pastor of the Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma and his messages are honestly so impactful. Not to mention he's really funny too!

A lot of his messages can be found on YouTube so you can check it out when you can. But the preachings I want to talk about today are the ones from his Relationship Goals series. I stumbled upon this because of a friend and it honestly opened my eyes to a lot of truths regarding dating, singleness, love and marriage. And for those of you who love to read, he's turned the series into a book which will be out in April called Relationship Goals: How to Win at Dating, Marriage, and Sex.

I feel as Christian youth especially, it can be hard to really define these things because it's not exactly something we're taught about in our churches, or at least, we don't go as deep as we should regarding dating and even topics like sex.

In Pastor Mike Todd's series, God uses him to speak to us on His perspective of our relationships and how we're supposed to treat every stage we're in. There are 8 different messages in the series and I'd encourage you to actually listen and note down what he says because trust me, the lessons I've learnt from this have made me rethink my ideas of relationships and dating.

One major thing I learnt was that, before I can fully commit to someone else, I must be able to be comfortable with being single. And I must also have a stronger connection with God before going out to find a connection with someone else. Ever since this series, I've realised that my relationship with God really does affect my relationship with others. And we can overlook that at times.

How I respond to God's love has an effect on how I see myself, which goes on to affect how I treat others. Whatever's in us is what we give out, and if we're lacking in self esteem, we're certainly not going to be thinking highly of other people. And we can only have and maintain a high self-esteem when see ourselves through God's eyes.

Another important lesson I learnt from the series was that, intentional dating is key. I think in this day and age, a lot of people just date for the fun of it. And it doesn't help that social media paints this fairytale image of what a relationship should be like.

But I think that dating should have a purpose; the purpose being marriage. Marriage was created by God to be a covenant between a man, a woman and Him. Without God in a union, the connection won't be complete. Certain things you do leading up to marriage are very important. Intentional dating involves finding out whether or not the person you're with is someone you could grow together in the Lord with for the rest of your life.

But you should know that, just because it didn't work out with one person, doesn't mean that it won't work with someone else. Sometimes, it takes meeting the wrong people to finally find the right person. And through it all, if you're depending on God and not on your own strength or judgement, the right person will eventually come your way.

Also, marriage isn't the end but is the beginning of a whole new life. One thing Pastor Mike mentioned was that love comes after marriage and he explained it in the sense that, it's when you begin to live, grow and learn together, you're able to really love someone. Because loving your spouse involves sacrifices, compromises and respect. And it may take a lifetime to really learn how to truly love someone.

I'd love to share more lessons with you but I think it would be so much easier if you watched the series for yourself. The link to the first one is down below so go ahead and check it out.

If you enjoy it, make sure to share with a friend because I honestly think it's something we as youth really need to understand more. If you're gonna watch something, may as well be something that'll help you grow and gain wisdom. Let me know what you think and feel free to share what you learn from the series. I'd be more than glad to chat with you about it.

@Gabriella Quain That's a good question. In my opinion, I do think that there's someone out there in the world that God has prepared for you to be with. Finding that person however would depend on your ability to trust God's divine planning and be patient for the right time to come. Although with this question, this particular scenario comes up: What if unfortunately the person you think you're destined to be with dies and you meet someone else who God also brings your way? Who was the initial person God planned for you to be with?

At the end of the day, I think God brings or allows people into our life for different seasons. Whether that season is…

God bless you Eunice. I have a question though, anyone can answer. Is there one particular person that someone is destined to, to get married to?
