In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry...
Ephesians 4:26
We all get angry; it's a normal emotion. Even God gets angry. Anger itself is not a sin. However, what we do when we get angry can lead to sin. An example is the famous story of Cain and Abel. In his anger and jealousy, Cain killed his own brother Abel. God had warned him before not to let his anger take control of him but these words fell on deaf ears. As a result, Cain was cursed by God to live the rest of his life as a wanderer.
Anger tends to make us lose all our senses and rationality. It can cause us to disregard all etiquette and manners, and act in a way unlike ourselves. When we don't get our anger in check, it can cause us to do things that we end up regretting later on.
God is telling us today not to let our anger lead us to sin. It is really difficult, I'm not going to lie. I can't count how many times I physically fought with my siblings when we were younger, just out of anger. And the things I'd used to say were less than godly. It wasn't until God taught me patience that I was able to control my actions. Patience is the key to overcoming anger.
We are also told not to carry our anger until the next day. When we harbour anger, it eats away at us like a parasite and sucks away our joy and love. It changes our whole mood and demeanour, and causes us to interact badly with those around us. Never go to bed knowing you're keeping anger within you. Not only is it unhealthy but it can build up and cause us to sin against God and others.
Go through today with forgiveness and peace within your hearts. Never let anger get the best of you.
Stay blessed and stay a blessing.
